One person jumped from the flames and sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to KG Hospital, Jayanagar, immediately.

The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the KDP building – which houses the Maruti Suzuki Nexa showroom, a Cultfit fitness centre, and the Institute of Product Leadership – very close to the Nexus Mall, Koramangala.

A police officer at the site said that, prima facie, it appeared that the fire originated at the Mudpipe cafe from a generator on the fourth floor around 12 pm. Within three to four minutes, three cylinders burst, he added.

Fire tenders received a call at 12.04 pm, following which, five water tankers and two water bowsers from High Grounds, Jayanagar, Hulimavu, Electronics City, and Sarjapur rushed to the spot to put out the flames.

Sources who were inside the building when the fire broke out noted that six bikes parked outside the building were completely charred, and one car was partially damaged.

An employee of the Maruti Suzuki Nexa car showroom said that the car was due to be delivered at 4.30 pm on Wednesday.

The injured victim has been identified as Prem Kumar, 28, hailing from Nepal. He was initially taken to KG Hospital in Jayanagar but was taken to Apollo Hospital, Jayanagar, around 3.15 pm for CT or MRI scans and further life-saving treatment.

Dr Harish, ICU Specialist at KG Hospital, Jayanagar, said that he may have suffered internal bleeding, especially inside his head, as he bled out of his ears and nose after he fell.

"He has most likely suffered internal injuries, the extent of which can only be identified after the scans. He had a visible fracture on his arm too. We intubated him and put him on ventilator support before he was shifted," the doctor told DH.
