In a first for the state, doctors at the Narayana Health City have successfully performed a double lung transplantation, giving a new lease of life for a 28-year-old man.
Sudeesh M V from Kerala had suffered lung failure due to severe bronchiectasis. His condition had worsened in the past one year as he had to struggle to move around, a release from the Narayana Health City said.
Doctors first stabilised Sudeesh since his infection was severe. They began searching for a matching lung, which they could find in three months, thanks to a donor in Sparsh Hospital, Yeshwantpur.
A multi-disciplinary team, led by Heart and Lung Transplant Surgeon Dr Julius Punnen, performed the surgery. Sudeesh is currently recovering.
