Deepa Pandit
MES Kishore Kendra
98.83 per cent (PCMC)
Deepa Pandit has emerged as the best — with no competition. She managed to achieve the first rank in the state though she admits to not having studied very much.
Surprised but delighted, Deepa says, “This was very unexpected. In the last two years, I haven’t really been studying much for my PUC. My main focus has always been on the CET and AIEEE.”
However, she says that she put together her act in the last month before her exam — with wondrous results. “I started studying vigorously at that time. I didn’t make any plans because I knew I wouldn’t stick to them — I just read what I felt like. I normally play badminton and sing, but over the last few months, I haven’t had much time to pursue these,” she adds. Her father, M G Pandit, is a proud parent today.
“She’s a hard-working girl, so we expected she’d be in the top ten. But this was a lovely surprise. I’m based in Shimoga and her mother is working, so this was basically through her own effort,” he beams.
Vikas
Christ Junior College,
97.3 per cent (PCMB)
For Vikas, it was the constant support from his teachers and parents that encouraged him to study hard.
The question paper leak and postponement did not worry Vikas because he didn’t want his performance to be affected.
Upon seeing the final result, he was thrilled to bits.
“After SSLC, I did find PUC very difficult but I wanted to give it my best and prove to myself that anything is possible with hard work. Now I am waiting for my CET and AIEEE results and I hope to join the Indian Institute of Science,” he adds.
Sahiti Priya
National College
97.5 per cent (PCMC)
Sahiti, a student of National College, PCMC stream, was thrilled to find out that she had done so well in her PUC examinations.
“I had worked very hard but I had not expected such high scores. I started preparing right from the beginning and attended college tuitions. I knew I would do well but did not expect such results. My parents were extremely supportive and are very happy that I have done well,” she says.
Sahiti scored a hundred in physics, chemistry, mathematics and computer science. As of now she is waiting for the CET results and says that the celebrations will take place only after the CET results are declared.
“I want to pursue engineering and I wish I score well in the CET exams as well,” she adds.
Ajay Kumar M
CMR National PU College
97 per cent (PCME)
Mahender Singh hasn’t studied much. But like any other father he wanted his son to accomplish what he couldn’t and rightly so. His son Ajay Kumar M, a student of CMR National PU College, didn’t let his father down and has scored 97 per cent topping the PCME stream in his college. “It is hard work and systematic learning that have helped me get what I wanted. My results are no surprise to me. I’ve worked hard and was expecting this result,” says Ajay.
Ajay had topped in class ten as well. He tells that he would study for at least four to five hours a day, undisturbed. “I would chalk out a time table for the week and stick to it as much as possible. I would set a target for the day and make sure I achieve that,” he adds.
Ajay says he never studied under pressure and always took appropriate breaks. “I am not a ‘nerd’ who would sit with books, I hang out with my friends and watch movies too. I never let stress get to me,” he notes.
Ajay wishes to pursue mechanical engineering at R V College of Engineering. “I also want to do something in aeronautics and if finances permit, I would want to study abroad,” he says.
His father Mahender Singh couldn’t contain his excitement when he was talking about his son’s achievement, “We have never forced him to study. It’s hard work that has paid off. I am thrilled and will support him in whatever he wants to specialise in.”
Commerce stream
Ravina B Jain
Jain College
98.5 per cent (ABMS)
Ravina B Jain was in tears when she came to know that she had not only scored highest in her college in commerce stream (accounts, business studies, maths, statistics) but also in the State. Though she knew she would hold a rank she never really expected to stand first in the entire State. With a whopping 98.5 per cent, Ravina owes her performance to her family and to the faculty of her college. “I never attended a single tuition class because I trusted my college and the hard work I put into my preparation. Solving previous years’ question papers helps a lot,” says Ravina, who aspires to be a charted accountant. Her mother, Meena B Jain, didn’t believe her daughter when she first told her about the marks. “She has made me the proudest woman in the world. The news is still to sink in,” she adds.
Anusha R
Indian Academy PU
College: 98 per cent (CSBA)
Anusha R has bagged fifth rank in State. This young lady, a student of Indian Academy PU College, who opted for computer science, statistics and business studies and accountancy (CSBA), aspires to be a chartered accountant. “It’s only hard work, commitment and determination that has got me this far. I am thrilled and thank everybody for all the support and encouragement, especially my parents,” says Anusha, who is the only daughter of Manjula and Ravikumar. Her mother, Manjula says, “After coming from school, she never studied. Instead she would watch all the serials, go for her music class and even watch the IPL and study only after 8 pm. We are proud of her.”
Shivakumar
Christ Junior College
98 per cent (CAMS)
While most students were out celebrating once the results were out, Shivakumar was busy attending his CPT coaching classes. That showed his dedication towards his future plans of becoming a charted accountant.
“In my entire family, nobody has scored this much hence my parents are very proud of me. I never went for any coaching classes for my PUC because the kind of teachers we had in our college really helped us understand the concept very well,” says Shivakumar. His subjects were commerce, accounts, maths and statistics.
Ashwini
Commerce Stream,
Christ Junior College
97.83 per cent (CAMS)
Solving previous years’ question papers helped Ashwini come out with flying colours. She was expecting the marks. “I was expecting these marks but when I checked the website I could not believe it and thought I was seeing wrong. But now I am happy with the marks I have got. I worked really hard for it. I got 100 in accounts, maths and statistics which is amazing,” says Ashwini, whose favourite subject is accounts.
Arts stream
Pooja D’Souza
Mount Carmel College:
94.3 per cent
Pooja D’Souza has managed to score a 566 in her exams — a mere three marks less than the state topper in arts stream. She says, “Frankly, I did expect such good marks. I was a little apprehensive about how my papers would be corrected, though. After all, an arts paper is not like a commerce one, where one can get full marks,” she says, adding, “my only preparation mantra was no last-minute studying.
It’s important to plan well.” Her father, Vincent, is pleased as punch. “When we heard this morning that the state topper has got 569, we actually thought, that would be Pooja. But 566 is also satisfactory — we’re thinking of giving her papers for revaluation,” he says.
Prutha S Deshpande
Christ Junior College
92 per cent
Prutha was confident of scoring well in her exams. “I was hoping for this,” she says, adding, “I studied hard through the year, but made sure I didn’t put in long hours.” Ask her if she has any tips for the batch sitting for the exam next year and she promptly replies, “It’s very important not to waste time.
People often procrastinate and push studies to the last minute but it’s actually so much easier to be regular.” Her mother, Madhuri, beams, “I always knew she was brilliant and talented. I didn’t have to be behind her at all.”
Tulika Aggarwal
Christ Junior College
91.5 per cent
Tulika has never been the kind of student who studied long hours but she’s still managed to get herself a whopping 549 marks.
“I was actually very surprised — I expected 90 per cent or above — but this result has made me very happy,” says the topper, adding, “I never studied on a regular basis. I’m not the kind of student who puts in two or three hours everyday. I simply took regular notes and paid attention during my lessons and that was enough.”
