Friends no more

Yeh dosti hum nahin todenge, todenge dum magar tera saath na chodenge.

This is a song that personifies true friendship. Unlike a relationship, friendship is something that lasts forever. But in the film industry the story seems to be different.

Bollywood producer Subhash Ghai once said that one doesn’t have true friends in the film industry as people stick to one another only for mutual interests.

In Sandalwood too, there are stories about stars, who once were great friends, but have drifted apart due to ego clash and professional jealousy.

There was a time when the pair of Vishnuvardhan and Dwarkeesh, was a sure hit formula. They came out with at least two to three movies in a year and worked together in hits like Kalla Kulla, Singaporadalli Raja Kulla, Kittu Puttu and many others.

All of a sudden both stopped working together. Sources in the industry said that it was because of ego clash. After almost 10 to 15 years, the duo was seen together in the hit film Rayaru Bandaru Mavana Manege, this was seen as their patch up movie.

In the course of time, they did work together occasionally but the initial spark went missing. Then Apthamitra was released and it was a hit. Sadly, same did not happen in its sequel Aptharakshaka.

Actor Ravichandran and Hamsalekha (music director) combination was so popular that even if the movie flopped, the music saved it. Both personally and professionally, they were thick friends. The duo gave so many super hits starting from Premaloka, Ranadheera, Ramachari to Preethsod Thappa?. And then they stopped working together.
Though they had an ego clash, they still claim to be good friends in personal life. After the professional break, when one watched a Ravichandran’s films, one found Hamsalekha’s musical treat missing.

Ravichandran is also said to have had a rift with D Rajendra Babu (director) after the blockbuster movie Ramachari. Ravichandran publicly claimed that it was solely his movie which only made the rift between the two more prominent.

Doddana and ‘Tennis’ Krishna were always an inseparable duo when it
came to the comedy genre. There were many movies where their comedy track was the highlight. But due to interpersonal misunderstanding, they too moved apart. Now they rarely work together as a pair.

Upendra’s super hit movie Tharlenanmaga witnessed a lot of things. It not only established Upendra as an innovative director but it also introduced Jaggesh as a hero. Till then, he was known only as a side track comedian-cum-villain.

Their friendship had started much before the movie. Strangely enough, after the release, the duo never worked together again.

The break was very prominent when Jaggesh was seen mocking Upendra’s film Upendra in the film Jeethendra.
