The temporary measures taken by various civic agencies to contain foaming at Bellandur lake fetched some results on Thursday.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) have installed a clean water sprayer at the waste weir of Bellandur Lake near Kariyammana Agrahara bridge.

The area, especially the bridge, was awash with foam due to the incessant rains for the past fortnight, leaving the residents fuming. Finally, as a temporary measure, the civic agencies decided to install the water sprayer at the waste weir. There were reports that on Thursday morning there was foaming that almost covered the bridge. However, in the afternoon, the frothing was completely under control due to spraying.

Apart from sprayers, the civic agencies are also putting up a net across the bridge to prevent the toxic foam from floating up in the air and spreading all over the bridge.

Kalpana Dubey, a resident, said the lake was still foaming, but due to the spraying, the froth did not rise up to the bridge on Thursday.

The civic agencies were compelled to initiate measures after people accused the various government bodies of killing the lake to benefit many real estate companies who want to grab the lake spread over an area of 832 square kilometre.
