According to police, the incident happened at the UB City signal when Sunitha, along with the victim, was returning from the police station after recording her statement. Sunitha shouted for help when the four men approached her. Passersby rushed to her rescue and caught one of the accused.

The victim’s mother was a domestic help at Sunitha’s mother’s house.

After she died, the girl was under their care. Sunitha said the girl was sexually assaulted by Kumar at her mother’s flat on May 24.

Sunitha filed a complaint with the Cubbon Park Police, following which Kumar was arrested under sections of Pocso.

Police said Kumar was a habitual offender.

He used to visit Sunitha’s mother on the pretext of helping her.
