Golden jubilee Durga pooja of Bengalee Association

Though the sojourn of Goddess Durga on earth starts from the first day of Navaratri for rest of people, the Bengali community celebrates the arrival from Maha Panchami evening, the fifth day after the new-moon, when the idol of Goddess along with Ganesh, Kartikeya, Goddesses Saraswati and Lakshmi are brought at Pooja Pandal.

Though there are four prominent Bengali organisations in the City holding Durga pooja, the oldest  organisation is Bengalee Association on Assaye Road. It  is celebrating the golden jubilee of its establishment.

Its president Achintya Lal Roy told Deccan Herald that a special Durga Pooja will be held at RBANMS Ground near Ulsoor Lake. On Maha Panchami Anandamela will start and a famous singer from Kolkata Nachiketa Chakraborty will perform. On Mahasaptami, artistes of Zee Bangla’s Sa Re Ga Ma winner will perform.

Maha Ashtami will be a major event where pooja will begin in the morning and last till the community Bhog at 12 noon. Cultural programmes will be held in the evening. The immersion will take place on Maha Dashami. Everyday cultural programmes will take place.
