Delhi University students are a harried lot as only a week is left for the first semester exams to commence. As the date is inching closer, students are making constant rounds of library to get some study material that could at least ensure passing marks.
But as students largely depend upon previous question papers, sample papers and guide books to get some sort of assistance, this year, they have nothing in hand
to rely upon.
“We are very much confused. Don’t know which books to buy or where to get the study material from,” says Aanshi, a student of Political Science (Hons) at Miranda House. Hunting for sample papers in Kamla Nagar bookstores, Aanshi stands clueless flipping the pages of a question bank booklet that is available in the market these days. She decides not to buy them. “I don’t know how far these will be helpful. To study for the main subject (Discipline course), these booklets do not have ample material.”
There is a fear of relying upon the booklet. “I cannot restrict my studies to the questions mentioned in the booklet. By any chance if question paper does not have anything related to it then what will I do,” she questions. Aanshi, is at present, dependent upon the books suggested by her teachers and the notes given by them.
But, Aanshi’s friend Payal, a Hindi (Hons) student in the same college decided to buy those booklets. “At least they will guide me a little bit,” says Paayal. “Since we have limited time left for the exams which are scheduled to start from November 20, it is impossible to go through text books and reference books.
I know I am taking a risk!” she exclaims. Already, grappling with study material for discipline courses, students have no clue about Foundation Courses (FC) as well.
Some sample papers for FC are available on DU’s website. “Students are not worried about foundation courses because it is for 20 marks only. Since, colleges will set their own FC papers, the question paper will vary,” says Gurman Bhatia, a third year student of Lady Sri Ram College. “There’s lot of uncertainty this year as it is the first time. Students cannot refer to the previous years question papers because their course is new and they are least aware about answering those questions,” she says.
