The High Court of Karnataka has issued notices to the BBMP and a private agency over the construction of a skywalk in Doopanahalli junction near 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar.
The notice was issued during the court's hearing of a petition filed by residents of 100 Feet Road, challenging the construction.
The petitioners asked the court to quash the work order dated March 14, 2018, passed by the BBMP in favour of Vizdom Outlook, a private agency to build the skywalk. They have also sought directions to the authorities to consider the petitioner's representations.
The petitioners said building the skywalk is useless since a skywalk already exists 100 metres away from the Doopanahalli junction. They requested that the skywalk be moved to 12th Main Road near a school so that it is useful to students and pedestrians.
The petitioners also said they made a representation to the BBMP on August 24, 2018, urging them to move the skywalk from the above-mentioned location close to the New Horizon School. They noted that the representation went without consideration.
The petitioners also allege that work order for the skywalk has been given to let the structure be used for advertisements to benefit private parties. They also said the skywalk will be a waste of public money if it is allowed to come up in the designated spot.
Moving it closer to the school would help the traffic flow and serve the public also, they noted.
