The high court on Monday issued a notice to Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) while hearing a PIL challenging the parking fee hike proposed by the corporation.
The court was hearing a petition filed by N P Amruthesh, an advocate, who sought directions to the BMTC to withdraw its March 3 tender notification.
The petitioner stated that the BMTC recently called the tender notification for business services in several bus stands, particularly to run two-wheelers and four-wheelers parking lot, where the public had to shell out more than 100% from what was charged previously to park their vehicles.
Amruthesh has made several representations to the corporation, the transport minister and also to the chief minister in this respect.
He also contends that the managing director of the corporation and the chief traffic manager( tender inviting authority) hands in glove with the bidder/contractor raised the parking charges by 100%, which will cause inconvenience to the people.
He stated that the other areas in the city like government hospitals, MS Building, KSRTC, among others charge less for parking.
