The High Court on Wednesday directed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and the police to initiate action against religious institutions using loudspeakers in violation of norms.
Hearing a PIL, a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna directed the police to ensure that religious institutions including temples and mosques did not indulge in noise pollution by using loudspeakers.
The petitioner has contended a few temples and mosques in Prashanthnagar, Govindarajnagar, Indiranagar and Banashankari use loudspeakers and the religious institutions might have not even obtained licence to use loudspeakers.
