Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy went down memory lane during his visit to the National College, his alma mater, on Monday.
Accepting the felicitation from the institution, he recalled that he got an admission to the institution with great difficulty.
“I was never a good student and H Narasimhaiah, the founder of National College, was a bit reluctant to take me in. But I was fortunate to study in this prestigious institution,” he said.
It was in the 1980s that Kumaraswamy pursued his BSc course from this college.
“I was always the last bencher and was scared of thinking as to what would happen if any teacher asked me any question. Would I be unable to answer it,” Kumaraswamy said.
“Though I was not good in studies, the teachers here always encouraged us to approach life positively and that has taken us to great heights,” said the alumnus of the college.
“If I was good in studies, I would have been an IAS officer today. But we have been taught to sail against a sea of odds,” he said.
It almost seemed like the same day as it was about twelve years ago in 2006, when Kumaraswamy elected as the chief minister, visited the institution seeking the blessings of his teachers.
Dr A H Rama Rao, president of National Educational Society of Karnataka, said: “Kumaraswamy is so good with the economics, it will reveal through his approach of farm loan waiver schemes. He can put great economists to shame.”
