Come the windy month of Ashada, automobile prices drop in Bengaluru.
Many in southern Karnataka believe Ashadha is inauspicious for big-ticket purchases. They have found a workaround: they book their cars now and take delivery after the month is done.
Bala Murali, sales manager with Mandovi Motors, Lavelle Road, says Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Celerio, Alto, Alto K 10 and Wagon R sell the most this season.
“This season experiences good sales. Billing is higher than average but delivery usually happens only after the Ashada months ends,” he told Metrolife.
Among diesel cars, Swift and Swift Dzire are being offered at a discount of Rs 20,000 (Rs 10,000 being the exchange bonus).
Celerio is cheaper by Rs 50,000 (Rs 30,000 discount plus Rs 20,000 exchange bonus). The Alto is also going at a discount of Rs 50,000 (Rs 30,000 discount plus Rs 20,000 exchange bonus).
The Wagon R gets you discounts of up to Rs 60,000 (Rs 35,000 discount plus Rs 25,000 exchange bonus) and the Ertiga Rs 55,000 (Rs 25,000 discount plus 35,000 exchange bonus).
Among petrol cars, the Ertiga is being offered at a discount of Rs 5,000 and with an exchange bonus of Rs 30,000. The Eco gets you Rs 25,000 off (Rs 5,000 plus Rs 20,000) and Omni Rs 50,000 (Rs 25,000 plus Rs 25,000).
“We are also giving out scratch cards with assured prizes of Maruti genuine accessories worth Rs 750 to Rs 51,000,” he says.
Ajay Singh, director (sales and marketing), Advaith Hyundai, Residency Road, says models like Eon, Grand i10, Xcent, Elite i20 and Active, Next Gen Verna, Elantra and Tucson come with discount packages and free insurance.
“From sales packages of Rs 50,000 on the Eon to Rs 2,08 lakh on the Tucson 4WD, it’s a season of plenty. Bengaluru is a city of techies now and many don’t mind buying the car and taking delivery right away,” he says.
Sales go up by 15 to 20 per cent because of the discounts, he claims.
Mahindra automobiles -- Bolero, Scorpio, Xylo, Thar, TUV300, KUV 100, KUV NXT, Verito, Rexton and Nuvosport-- are being offered at discounts, says Nagesh Reddy, managing director, Mahindra Sireesh Auto.
“The KUV 100 NXT is discounted at up to Rs 24,000, the TUV 300 Plus at up to Rs 20,000 and the Scorpio at up to of Rs 22,500,” he says.

The deal includes a Honda care maintenance package worth Rs 14,000 and accessories worth Rs 8,000. The Jazz pre-facelift petrol version is being discounted by Rs 38,000 with worth Rs 23,000 at Re 1.
Honda City petrol is discounted by Rs 52,000, and can get you an exchange bonus of Rs 20,000. For premium car lovers, the CR-V (petrol) is available at a discount of Rs 1.5 lakh.
Used cars owners are not offering any special discounts during the season. Mansoor, owner of Citizens Cars, Airport Road, says, “We always have some sales on and customers always try to grab the best bargains. We don’t offer additional discounts during this season.”
