Two years in the industry and Ranbir Kapoor has had a dream run which eludes many newcomers. Pleasing the critics and the audiences alike, the actor has shown his calibre in both serious and comic roles.

In the City recently to promote his latest movie Anjanaa Anjaani, the actor spoke about his experiences in the film industry, forthcoming releases and about directing a movie.
Excited about his latest release, he says, “The movie is about two people who are in the lowest phase of their life. They are suicidal and decide to spend 20 days together doing everything that they always wanted to do.”

The release of the movie was delayed by a week due to Ayodhya verdict, how does he feel about it? “I think every movie has its own fate. But the nation is surely bigger than the movie and I hope peace prevails everywhere,” he says.

What is it that he looks for, before signing a movie, the script or his role? “For me, there is nothing bigger than the script. Other than that, I also see whether the director wants to say something through the story,” he says. And why are his characters always underdogs? “In Hindi movies, I think a lot of characters are underdogs because then the audience cheers for them,” he says.

Talking about suicidal tendency, which has been dealt in the film, he says, “So many people, especially students, feel suicidal for a variety of reasons. But that does not mean that you should end your life. Good things do come along in life. For me, people who commit suicide are losers.”

How does he feel about his success in the industry? “It’s really heart-warming to see the appreciation I get. Also, I am very happy with the opportunities that I am getting to work with some of the great directors and beautiful co-stars,” he says. And who does he see as his competition? “I don't compare myself. I am an actor, so I’m selfish and ambitious. Everyone, from Amitabh Bachchan to Darsheel Safary, is my competitor,” he says.

Extremely confident but grounded, the actor says he is happy about Dabangg’s
success. “It shows that people are going to theatre to watch movies,” he says.
Talking about his future projects, he shares, “I am doing Rockstar with Imtiaz Ali and  Anurag Basu’s film with Priyanka.”

Any plans of working under the RK banner? “I would like to direct a film some day for my banner. But I haven’t found the right script and nothing has materialised yet,” he says.
