Thousands of students from all over the country took part in the fest. Students from VIT Vellore, SRM University Chennai, NIT Trichy, NLSIU Bangalore and many other colleges battled in eight events. B S Satyanarayana, principal of the college, inaugurated the fest and advised the forum members to make it an annual affair. The fest had science as the theme and included events like, ‘Quizzotica’, a quiz competition; debate, ‘Just-a-Minute’ (JAM), ‘Crossword’, ‘Paper Presentation’, ‘Treasure Hunt’, ‘Dumb Charades’ and ‘Rubixo’, a Rubik’s cube-solving competition.

“We have designed T-shirts for all the volunteers in a unique way. We have printed a ‘data sheet’ behind the T-shirts and is similar to the data sheets in our lab journals where we enter all the details about experiments,” said Prateek, the student co-ordinator.

‘Quizzotica’ saw a big number of participants which exceeded 200 entries. It was conducted in two rounds and the fight for the title was seen till the end. About 20 participants took part in the debate competition. Three topics were given for the prelims — ‘The future of public transportaion lies in the air’, ‘Cloning is the future of human race’ and ‘Contraceptive pills: Boon or bane’. Arjun Bolangdy and Tanvi Sunku were the judges for the event and they judged the contestants based on their speech delivery, content and stage presence.

“Debates not only help participants to win prizes but also in the overall development of speech and other essential skills,” said Arjun Bolangdy. ‘Rubixo’ had 20 students participating in it.

In the preliminary round, the participants were asked to arrange all the colours as fast as possible. The final round was quite interesting as they had to make a different pattern out of it.

The students presented their research papers in ‘Paper Presentation’ on the topic, ‘Recent Trends in Science’.

The participants were  pretty confident when they were fired with questions in interactive session.

‘Dumb Charades’, which saw 60 participants, was conducted in three rounds. There was an interesting round in which a team member had to draw a picture on the given topic and others had to guess what it was.

‘JAM’ was another crowd-pulling event where the participants were asked to speak for one minute continuously without any grammatical error and stammering. ‘Treasure Hunt’ received much attention as more than 150 students turned out for this event. It succeeded to entertain the audience as well as the contestants.

Sudha Kamath, the event co-ordinator, was happy with the response they got for the fest. “The science forum was conducting various talks, seminars and competitions for the students from many years. This year we thought of doing something different and that’s how we came with the idea of conducting a science fest. We got good response from outstation students also,” she said.
