A 22-year-old hotel management student from Mumbai interning at an upscale restaurant on Richmond Road was reportedly raped by her boss-cum-chef a month ago.
Unable to come out of the trauma, the woman filed a complaint with the Ashoknagar police on Monday. Police are hunting for the suspect, who has been identified as Hayaan Daimary, a native of Rowta, Assam.
The woman had arrived in Bengaluru in August 2018 and joined the restaurant as an intern. She stated in the complaint: “I was friendly with all staffers like any other intern. On November 18, my boss (Hayaan) invited me to a party at his brother-in-law’s house in Austin Town where both Hayaan and his brother-in-law made me drink and forced to stay back at the house. I was given (a) room to sleep and at around 1:30 am, Hayaan entered the room and began to kiss me and touch inappropriately. I tried in vain to push him back as he overpowered me and raped me. Later when I woke up at 3 am, he had run away from the house. Later, in the morning I returned to my home.”
The girl opened up to her parents and approached the Ashoknagar police. The restaurant owner, who runs several hotels in other parts of the country, told DH that he had removed Hayaan from the job a month ago as soon as he got to know about the incident, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
