The site allottees of Kempegowda Layout have written to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to revive its plan of creating a hi-tech zone in the layout.
The hi-tech zone is planned to be an industrial and commercial area.
The allottees have asked the government to speed up work on the zone for which land has already been demarcated.
The hi-tech zone was planned by KIADB and a preliminary gazette notification was issued in December 2009.
However, KIADB However, KIADB officials are unaware of any such project.
The allottees say the zone is required as the BDA is creating the layout for over 40,000 families across 4,000 acres of land. The BDA is also constructing a 10 km long and 330-feet-wide arterial road along the layout. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is also drawing Metro rail network.
The comprehensive development plan (CDP)- 2031 also mentions the formation of hi-tech zone.
Santosh Patil, an allottee said there is a requirement for such a zone when so much development is happening. Plenty of land is also available around the area. When a township developed, things to help citizens must also planned. Commercialisation and employment are a part of it. The government has also proposed a multi-modal transport hub at Challaghatta, which will also help the hi-tech zone, he added.
The allottees said BDA is asking people to occupy allotted space, but this can happen only if there is development, which will happen when industries and commercial spaces are created. Economy and infrastructure will boom when departments work in tandem, they said.
However, Prashanth R, Special Deputy Commissioner, KIADB, Rama R, Chief Development Officer-1, KIADB and engineers said they had no idea of the status of the project. Principal Secretary Gaurav Gupta also said that he was not aware of the proposal.
