The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has now opened a new entry gate for passengers with only hand baggage, carrying a printed boarding pass. This new dedicated gate (Gate No. 5) is expected to reduce improve throughput and reduce wait time at the security checkpoint.
However, this gate will not have access for passenger trolleys and wheelchairs. Currently, the number of passengers travelling with only hand-baggage constitutes 23% of total departure traffic. This number is surging upwards with the huge increase in passengers.
Nearly 55,000 passengers depart from the airport every day. KIA operator, the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) says the new innovative gate system will provide passengers a hassle-free travel experience and boost the airport's overall efficiency.
