The corporation announced that these new Volvo buses of the 9600 model, branded as Airavat Club Class 2.0, would be inducted after Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy inspected the new buses at the Volvo bus manufacturing factory near Hoskote on Monday.

The KSRTC currently has 443 luxury buses. Each bus of this new model costs Rs 1.78 crore.

The bus will have powerful halogen headlights, and daytime running lights and rear fog lights for improved visibility. It will have new interiors and exteriors, an aerodynamic design and advanced engines providing better fuel efficiency, and an increase in overall dimensions, including the windshield glass width to reduce blind spots.

The buses will also come equipped with a Fire Alarm and Protection System (FAPS), with water pipes with 30 nozzles installed on either side of the passenger seats for better safety during fire emergencies.
