Large groups of people gathered near television screens put up at various locations in the City cheering Narendra Modi as he took oath as Prime Minister on Monday.
The BJP leader’s fans also did ‘milk abhisheka’ to a cutout of the new prime minister at Chamarajpet where a large group of followers had gathered. Nearly 10,000 laddus were distributed to those who came to witness the same. Members of Shringar Shopping Complex on MG Road burst firecrackers and and distributed tea and biscuits to over 400 passers-by, as Modi stepped on the podium to take oath.
An atmosphere similar to that seen during IPL matches was witnessed in the City with huge screens put up at Mysore Bank Circle and other places. It was free dosas, tea and kesari bath for those in Chickpet.
Raveendra, a BJP worker in Basavanagudi, said that he would expect “good governance” from the new government. He said, “instead of calling it corruption-free government, this would be a positive way to look at it.”
Volunteers also distributed sweets to over 200 people who passed by.
Power cut plays spoilsport
While most people were glued to television sets to witness the swearing-in ceremony, rains, however, ruined the plans of Bangalore South residents.
The downpour in many areas led to power cuts, resulting in the residents being disappointed.
Rukmini V G, resident of Channamanakere Achukattu, said she had been eagerly awaiting to watch the “historic moment.” “Though there is an UPS at my home and TV was working, the channels were not available due to power cut at the cable operator’s office,” she said.
Naresh Kumar, a call centre employee who lives in Katriguppe, said he had taken a day’s leave to watch the swearing-in event live. But he was greatly disappointed as rains and the resultant power cut played spoilsport. “I will watch it later when the power supply is restored,” he remarked.
