In his petition, Madani, under judicial custody since his arrest on August 17 last, sought bail on the ground that there was no prima facie evidence against him to implicate him in the blasts, his counsel P Usman said.
The bail plea was likely to come up for hearing in a day or two. "Even four months after his arrest, the prosecution has not been able to gather any evidence against him. His remaining in custody is unwarranted because there is no question of any further investigation in the matter or his interrogation," Usman told PTI here.
A team of Bangalore police had arrested Madani from his orphanage-cum-madrasa Anwarssery in Kerala on August 17. On December 3, a local court had committed the case for trial.
Madani is among 31 persons chargesheeted in the case relating to the July 2008 blasts that killed a woman and left and 20 others injured.
