Police said Hassan Sohail, 43, arrived in India on November 10 as a tourist and checked into a hotel in RT Nagar. He was scheduled to check out on Wednesday.

Police investigations show that Sohail did not leave his hotel room after Tuesday. When he did not open the door on Wednesday, hotel staff called the police helpline. A police team reached the hotel soon after and opened the room using a spare key.

"Sohail was found lying unconscious, with vomit all over the floor," a police officer told DH.

Police have sent the body to the Ramaiah Hospital mortuary. "The post-mortem will be conducted only after his family arrives and gives consent," the officer added.

The RT Nagar police have notified the Maldives High Commission and Immigration Office about the incident. His family is expected to arrive in Bengaluru soon.

Given the circumstances, police have filed an unnatural death report for now.

Sohail had planned to travel to Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai before returning to the Maldives on November 15.
