A man who was roaming suspiciously, wearing a burqa, in HRBR Layout on Monday night has been arrested.
A senior police officer said people caught the suspect, Shivaraj, and handed him over to the police.
Initially, they thought that a woman in the burqa was roaming around in the area. But they grew suspicious noticing the person's footwear.
When they caught him and began to question him, he tried to run away. People caught him after a chase only to find that he was wearing gloves and was holding a knife inside the burqa, the police said.
The police rushed to the spot and brought him to the station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Shivaraj, a native of Raichur, had come to the city in search of a job. He had borrowed money from his friend, who wanted it back. Frustrated, Shivaraj decided to assault him and came to the layout in pursuit of his friend.
Shivaraj confessed that he had no money to repay debt and that his friend had not given him sufficient time to pay it back. So decided to attack his friend. He wore the burqa to hide his identity, the police said.
The KG Halli police filed an FIR under the attempt to murder and are investigating the case.
