A man diverted the attention of a car driver and took away a bag containing Rs 3.5 lakh and documents of a city-based businessman in Commercial Street on Friday.
The incident happened near a jewellery store at 6.30 pm. The businessman, Sudhakar Reddy Annem, a resident of CV Raman Nagar, was at Commercial Street to buy some hardware material. He asked his driver to wait in the car and entered a shop, leaving his bag behind.
Three men approached the driver and one of them told him that there were currency notes lying under the car. The driver got down and found a Rs 10 and a Rs 50 note each. When he was busy picking up the notes, one of the three strangers took the bag and melted into the crowd.
Annem returned and found his bag missing, at which the driver told him what had happened. The businessman lodged a complaint with the Commercial Street police station.
