Vijayalakshmi was Manjunath’s second wife. She was earlier married to Govinda but separated from him within three months of the wedding. But the second marriage did not prove lucky for Vijayalakshmi either. Differences of opinion had cropped up between Manjunath and Vijayalakshmi a few months ago as he suspected her fidelity.

Vijayalakshmi’s mother Ramakka told the police that she saw the couple on Friday evening and found them happy. She did not know what happened later.  According to police reconstruction of events,  Manjunath took his wife and child who was yet to be named, to the Whitefield area where he first threw his daughter on a heap of small stones, and blundgeoned her to death. He then apparently smashed Vijayalakshmi’s head against a boulder, killing her.
