Man loses his right eye to cracker

 A carpenter by profession, he was about to enter his second floor house in J C Nagar when a cracker rocket came right into his eye.

"We have spent Rs 15,000 for the surgery now. Mohan was the sole breadwinner in the family with a pregnant wife. Loosing one eye can make matter worse," said a relative of Mohan. 

According to Dr K Bhujang Shetty of Narayana Nethralaya, Mohan is likely to loose vision in his right eye.  "Mohan has suffered eye ball rupture. His condition is pretty serious. We conducted a surgery on him on Monday, but there are no chances of him getting vision in his right eye," he said.

Since Mohan suffered globe rupture where there is tear in the eye ball, all the contents of his eye have expelled out.  Evisceration, a procedure to remove foreign contents to avoid further infection has been conducted on him. However his left eye is safe.

The number of eye injury cases has increased in many hospitals across the City this Deepavali.  Minto Hospital has reported 32 cases till now with 18 fresh cases.  Two children, around 4 and 5-years-old were reported with major injuries late Monday evening.  Medical Superintendent of the Hospital Dr K S Sreeprakash said that the injuries were quite severe. 

The Samprathi Hospital received four cases including one major case of a ten-year-old boy. 

Narayana Hrudayalaya reported 31 cases till Monday night with 16 fresh cases including two serious injuries.  Nethradhama Hospital has received 12 cases till now with five major injuries.  Rangalakshmi Netralaya received 6 cases with a six-year-old boy suffering globe perforation in one eye.
