An unidentified body was discovered underneath a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus that was driven to Tamil Nadu, leading to the arrest of its driver by the Wilson Garden police.
The police said the body of a man has been taken to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. They found that the body stuck to the bus' chassis after an accident and the driver, Mohinuddin (42), tried to hide it under another bus. Mohinuddin, who hails from Raichur, has been a driver with KSRTC at the Shanthinagar bus depot. He drove a bus to Coonoor in Tamil Nadu and returned to the city on Friday morning.
The bus took the Mysuru-Mandya-Ramanagaram route and is suspected to have hit a commuter on a link road between Chennapatna and Ramanagaram. The driver sped on after the accident.
The commuter's legs were stuck in the chassis and he was dragged all the way on the road from the accident spot. As a result, the skin on the body's back and the flesh were completely scraped.
The bus reached the Shanthinagar bus stand at 2.30 am. After the passengers alighted, Mohinuddin drove it to depot 1.
At the gate of depot 1, he checked the chassis and found the dangling body. Before he could drive it inside, the body fell off.
Efforts to hide the body
Afraid of the consequences, Mohinuddin took the body and left it under another bus in an effort to get rid of it. The driver then parked his bus at the designated slot and headed home. His attempt to hide the body was revealed when the police checked the CCTV footage clips where he was seen looking under the bus.
The police also noticed blood marks in the chassis of the bus Mohinuddin drove, and arrested him based on that evidence.
