Work is progressing well on the underground stretch of the Namma Metro project.
The Corporation has completed the steel decking work at the Minsk Square (Cubbon Park) Station. As many as 299 soldier piles out of the 432 at the station box have been completed.
A total of 292 of the 351 secant piles have been completed. BMRCL sources said, “About 88,369 cubic metre of soil and 1,300 cubic metre of rock have been excavated for the Minsk Square station box.”
At Vidhana Soudha, all the 341 soldier piles and 49 secant piles have been completed with 1,17,498 cubic metre of soil and 17,535 cubic metre of rock being excavated.
Similarly, work at the Central College and Bangalore City Stations have picked up pace with 1,10,677 cubic metre of soil and 53,594 cubic meter of rock being already excavated at the Central College station.
All the solider piles have been completed at the Bangalore City station with the excavation of 1,04,606 cubic metre of soil being completed.
“Tunnelling in the underground East-West corridor has commenced from the Majestic end towards East and has advanced 940 metre (using tunnel boring machine Helen) and 835 metre (using the machine Margarita),” a source pointed out.
Also, the process of designing has begun on the North-South corridor. The contract to construct tunnels and two stations with ramps was awarded to TTS-Coastal JV, some time last year.
“Works on both the North and South Ramps have commenced. In the South Ramp, 305 secant piles have been completed out of 472 and at Chickpet and KR Market stations, preliminary works of barricading and shifting of uncharted utilities are in progress,” the source added.
