Bengaluru: Metro services on the northern part of the Green Line were disrupted between the Nagasandra and Yeshwantpur stations, causing inconvenience for Friday morning commuters.
The disruption lasted nearly half an hour, with services resuming only by 10.45 am, metro officials said.
Officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said technical glitches in the signalling system around 10.15 am at the Peenya Industry station had forced a temporary suspension of the train services between Yeshwantpur and Nagasandra, until the issue could be resolved.
Shankar AS, Executive Director for Operations and Maintenance, BMRCL, told DH that the incident, although infrequent, could have been caused by electronic issues in the signalling system, possibly related to voltage or wiring problems.
"Due to a glitch, the route set towards the Peenya depot could not be normalised after the passage of the train, preventing a reset to normal mode for the main line. Such failures are not frequently occurring," he clarified. Maintenance personnel will analyse the situation to pinpoint the exact cause after revenue hours.
6 trains cancelled
During the half-hour disruption, six trains were cancelled beyond Yeshwantpur and were short looped to run between the Silk Institute and Yeshwantpur metro stations, an official statement said.
Some frustrated commuters took to social media to voice their complaints. One picture posted on X (formerly Twitter) showed a metro signboard displaying 'Train not in service', while a train was stationed in the background.
Passengers at the Nagasandra platform were left stranded, having crossed the entry gates, with uncertainty evident on their faces regarding the resumption of train services.
Recent incidents
In recent months, a series of technical disruptions has plagued metro operations.
In October, a massive nine-hour disruption occurred on the Green Line after a road-rail vehicle broke down on the metro track in Rajajinagar, affecting peak hour commute.
In July, power supply glitches disrupted train movement between Indiranagar and Baiyappanahalli on the Purple Line, while November saw disruptions due to maintenance works on the same line.
