Bengaluru: A minibus driver who was involved in a fatal accident has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison and fined Rs 9,000 by the Sub-Divisional Juducial Magistrate (SJDM) Court.
The accident occurred at 1:10 am on September 14, 2021, at Varthur Gunjur Main Road when the 37-year-old minibus driver, Suneel Kumar, swerved suddenly to the left side of the road, which resulted in a collision with a motorcycle.
According to the traffic police, the motorcycle rider, Kalyan Kumar, initially survived the accident and underwent treatment, but went into a coma due to the severity of his injuries.
The 25-year-old passed away on December 12, 2021, from health complications.
The minibus driver was booked under sections 279 (rash and negligent driving on a public way) and 304(a) (causing death of a person through negligence not culpable of homicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The court stated that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional two months and 10 days to the sentence.
