Speaking to presspersons after a review meeting with Bangalore legislators, BBMP corporators and BWSSB officials on Monday, Minister Kumar said he will soon visit the new areas to get a firsthand account of the civic problems.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) would take measures to ensure adequate manpower to attend to complaints.
Earlier, legislators and corporators voiced their concerns over water-related problems in their wards. They demanded replacement of old supply pipes. The elected representatives alleged lack of cooperation from the BWSSB staff.
K R Puram Legislator Nandish Reddy said the contract for projects in new areas expired in August last and the Board has not renewed them, yet.
He also complained of a few unauthorised connections by a few apartments in his constituency.
Kengeri Corporator Anjanappa said sanitary and water lines were last laid in 1972 in his ward and hence maintenance has become a tough task.
He said only four contractors had been assigned the job of maintaining borewells across the city. “Many a time they do not respond to our complaints and indulge in excess billing,” he alleged.
Several corporators said they were not getting any solution from BWSSB officials for water woes. “I had requested for a meeting with the watermen and other Board officials in my ward. I am yet to get a response,” Kuvempunagar ward corporator Yashodamma said.
