A man wanted for the murder of a truck driver in eastern Bengaluru last week was fired upon and caught on Monday night, a senior police officer said.
H D Kulkarni, the Hennur police inspector, shot at the suspect, Abhishek, when he tried to escape by attacking a policeman in Hennur Bande. Abhishek's alleged accomplice, Guru Brahma, who was arrested earlier, had told the police about the former's hideout.
Seeing the police, Abhishek knifed Santosh, a sub-inspector. The police inspector then fired at him in self-defence, said DCP (East) Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad.
Abhishek was taken to Bowring Hospital before being shifted to Victoria hospital. Police are awaiting his recovery to take his statement. The injured sub-inspector is being treated at a private hospital near Hennur.
Abhishek and Guru Brahma had picked a quarrel with Keshav, the truck driver, on November 30. Keshav beat up Abhishek in full public view. Abhishek felt humiliated and vowed revenge. The duo retaliated by fatally hacking Keshav the same day.
