A National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court has dismissed the bail application filed by Asim Shariff, an accused in the murder of RSS worker Rudresh.
The 49th additional city civil and sessions judge on Monday dismissed the application filed by Sheriff seeking bail.
The Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) representing NIA contended that Sheriff and the other accused in the case attended indoctrination classes conducted by Abdulla Abdul Rehman, an SDPI leader in Whitefield.
He further argued that the accused were motivated in the indoctrination classes to assault members of the RSS. It was also argued by the SPP that the accused persons had conspiracy meeting at Sheriff’s house.
The court dismissed the application stating that the accused had failed to establish that as a matter of rule he is entitled to be released on bail. “On the other hand, the materials adduced by the investigating agency prima-facie discloses the modus operandi of the offence being serious in nature, this is a case of exception to reject the bail,” the court said.
Rudresh was murdered in broad daylight by motorbike-borne men at Kamaraja Road in Shivajinagar on October 16, 2016.
The NIA took over the probe and arrested Sheriff and four others for their involvement in the murder case. The NIA has filed the charge sheet and the case has reached the trial stage.
