Speaking at the launch of a campaign on rain water harvesting at RMV State II in Sanjay Nagar, he said the Board was suffering a loss of Rs 50 crore each month since it was supplying drinking water to Bangaloreans at highly subsidised rates. He had recently said the water rates would be hiked in the range of 33 per cent to 200 per cent, with retrospective effect from April 1.
Earlier, after launching the 60-day intensive campaign, which aimed to cover 60 wards in 60 days, Naidu visited the residence of the Ramakrishnas, the first resident in the area to install rainwater harvesting structures and congratulated them.
A play to highlight the need and advantages of RWH was staged by A S Murthy and his troupe. An auto bearing slogans and stickers that highlighted the need to adopt RWH was also launched. The vehicle would go around all streets in the ward and motivate public to opt for RWH.
