The hostel for students from the North-east region of the country, which is being constructed in Jnanabharathi Campus of Bangalore University (BU), will be inaugurated in November. Launched in 2016, the Rs 100 crore project has missed several deadlines.

Venugopal KR, BU Vice-Chancellor, told DH, “The building is getting its final shape now and will be inaugurated in November. This was funded by the central government for the girl students of the Northeast states. It was scheduled to be completed in 18 months but due to various reasons missed several deadlines.”

The new hostel will have 125 rooms, where three students can be accommodated in one room. For the convenience of students, it will also have separate restrooms in each room.

“It can accommodate a total of 375 students, where 25% of the admission will be reserved for BU students. We have arrived at this understanding as it's a central government funded project and built on our campus. Hardly 10% of the electric work is remaining and like in other buildings solar panel will be installed here as well,” VC added.
