Bengaluru: Bengaluru's heavy rains have caused damages worth Rs 1.94 crore to the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) in the first 21 days of October, data accessed by DH reveals.
To address the damage caused by the rains and strong winds this month, Bescom spent Rs 1.5 crore on materials and Rs 38.6 lakh on labour. A significant portion — Rs 80 lakh — was allocated for repairs in the Chandapura division, where 15 poles and 39 transformers were damaged.
In total, 111 poles, costing Rs 11.51 lakh, and 117 transformers, worth Rs 1.81 crore, were damaged, according to a source within Bescom. These incidents led to widespread power disruptions, but Bescom managed the situation efficiently.
"When we receive emergency calls, our action team is immediately dispatched to resolve the issue. Despite the heavy rains, there have been no prolonged power outages this October," the source told DH.
