The commuter train is scheduled to make its first commercial run on October 20. Hectic activities have begun in the Palike to clean up the stretch between MG Road and Byappanahalli.
The Palike plans to fill all potholes, beautify pavements, create a litter-free zone and develop greenery at all the junctions along the Reach-1 of the Metro rail.
To ensure this, Palike Commissioner Siddaiah inspected the roads from MG Road to Byappanahalli on Tuesday and instructed the zonal commissioner and the chief engineer of the BBMP East Zone to conduct a cleanliness drive in the area daily.
While the pothole-filling drive is already on across the City, more emphasis will be given to the stretch along Reach-1 till the D-Day. Siddaiah directed the Superintendent of the Horticulture department to plant saplings near Anil Kumble Circle, Basaveshwara Circle, Mahatma Gandhi Circle, B Station Circle on Mahatma Gandhi Road, Trinity Circle and other important junctions.
The commissioner also directed the officers to ensure that the heaps of mud on the roads from Anil Kumble Circle to Trinity Circle, and from CMH Road to Byappanahalli are cleared to make them dust-free.
He instructed them to hire 10 tractors, five tippers and 100 gangmen to execute the work by October 17.
Bad roads
The commissioner took the executive engineer of Shivajinagar sub-division to task for the poor condition of roads near Karnataka Public Service Commission office and Basaveshwara Circle.
He warned him of stringent action if the roads at these two places are not repaired within a week.
