The IT section of the BBMP is working on uploading civic projects related information in the public domain. According to sources, the BBMP Palike plans to upload the Geographical Information System (GIS) maps in its website. These GIS maps will have details of the works carried out on a particular road. With the click of the mouse, the entire history of the road will appear on the screen.
The details will show how many times the road was asphalted, when the pavements were laid or repaired or when the underpass or the fly-over was constructed. The details will also include the amount of money spent on the work, the date of commencement and the deadline of the work and the name of the contractors.
The idea of uploading details of works on a particular road came up when the BBMP decided to use the GIS maps for collecting property tax. The BBMP had uploaded details of properties in its intra-net system that gives details about the status of the property, whether they are residential or commercial, and the payment of taxes. While e-listing all the details using the GIS map, the BBMP officials thought of uploading information about the roads on the website. The listing of roads in the GIS maps has been planned to ensure more transparency and to reduce the piling up of RTI applications in the BBMP.
“We are working on uploading GIS maps with details of works on a particular street in our website. We have asked the zonal engineers to furnish work details of a particular road,” a BBMP source said
