Swapnil Holey was apprehended by the authorities when the IndiGo's Nagpur-Bangkok flight via Bengaluru reached the Kempegowda International Airport around 11.50 pm on Saturday night.

He was subsequently handed over to the Bengaluru International Airport Police on Sunday morning and booked under IPC Section 336 (acts endangering the life or personal safety of others). He was released on station bail after police recorded his statement.

In a police complaint, Anu P Tom, an assistant manager at Interglobe Aviation Limited, stated that Holey attempted to open the emergency door of IndiGo flight number 6E 6803 around 11 pm on September 30.

Sitting on seat number 5E, he allegedly tried to unlock the emergency door in violation of the flight safety rules, according to the complaint.

At the time, the flight crew were briefing the passengers just before the take-off.

A police officer close to the investigation quoted the passenger as saying that it was an accident and not a deliberate act. "He says he had extended his hand to get edibles kept next to the emergency exit and accidentally touched the lever," the officer told DH.
