Pulled up for not providing security to activist T J Abraham, despite his appeal nearly a month ago, Bangalore City Police Commissioner Jyothiprakash Mirji on Tuesday assured the Lokayukta Court that security will be provided ‘immediately’.

Quoting media reports, lawyer for Abraham questioned Mirji on whether the delay in providing the security cover was because of shortage of manpower, as police constables were being used by senior officers as domestic help or for menial jobs.

To this, Mirji replied that he had never stated that the reasons for failing to give police security was related to shortage of constables.

Not received summons

On why the Bangalore police had not provided police security to Abraham in the last two days, despite a complaint being lodged with the court on December 14, Mirji claimed that he had not received any summons or a copy of the memo filed by Abraham.

The activist had petitioned the Lokayukta Court to direct the Bangalore police for providing police protection, fearing for his life, and had previously stated that the police had turned a deaf ear to his pleas.

Influential personalities

Abraham had claimed that his life was in danger as the complaints filed by him with the Lokayukta had ‘exposed’  many influential personalities participating in illegal activities.
The legal counsel for Abraham had appealed to the Court to question the delay by the City police in granting security to his client.

Subsequently, the Court, on Monday, had asked Mirji to appear before it and justify his action.
