Sinkholes continue to pop up on the roads of Bengaluru and the latest one appeared at Ittamadu Main Road near Banashankari Main Road on Friday.

The three-feet-deep sinkhole appeared owing to a leakage of a water pipeline beneath it, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials said.

"The road caved in owing to a cavity that was formed since the soil had loosened owing to water seepage," a BBMP official told DH.

Meanwhile, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) officials said that the pipeline is now being replaced.

"A pipeline connecting one of the house was leaking and we have now replaced it," the BWSSB engineer told DH.

According to officials, the sinkhole appeared on Friday evening and was barricaded soon.

The pipeline replacement work started on Saturday morning and the road will be restored soon, the BBMP officials said.
