Even a day after electrical contractors ended their protest, streetlights on Bengaluru's streets remained switched off on Thursday night.
Electrical contractors had called for a snap protest on Wednesday morning demanding the payment of their dues, but the protest was called off in the night after Mayor R Sampath Raj intervened. The contractors said they would switch the lights on and off, but refused to undertake any maintenance work.
The BBMP control room received only 4-5 complaints from Jayanagar, Bommanahlli and Rajajinagar. However, a few streets in the city were still dark as the streetlights were not switched on.
When checked with the Electrical Contractors Association, K M Raju, general secretary of the association, said: “We have switched on the lights everywhere as we do not want people to be affected. However, our next step will depend on the decision taken at the council meeting on Friday.”
SWD contractors to go on strike!
Meanwhile, contractors of stormwater drain works are boycotting work from Friday, due to non-payment of their bills by the BBMP.
