Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedhike (Yuva Sene) on Monday clarified that they are only against the movie 'Veeramahadevi', where former pornstar Sunny Leone is featured in the lead role.
The protesters said they are not against the event - Fusion Nights - where the Indo-Canadian model will be performing.
The event is scheduled to be held on November 1 at Manyata tech park in Bengaluru.
"The producer is showing disrespect to a historical figure by featuring a porn star in the lead role. This is against our culture. How can the producer cast a pornstar for the role of an Indian queen who has historical value?" Harish Kumar, president of KaRaVe (Yuva Sene), told DH.
Sunny is playing the role of Chola queen 'Veeramahadevi' in the upcoming multilingual film. The historical period drama is directed by Vadivudaiyan.
The protesters added that the Chola dynasty has made a significant contribution to the Indian tradition. "We will not let this happen. This is also a disrespect to the dynasty which built several Hindu temples in Karnataka and it is our duty to ensure that their image is not damaged. If the movie is not banned we will not allow Sunny to enter Bengaluru," Harish added.
