Pubs identified as Covid clusters can continue functioning after complying with norms, says BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad.
Earlier this week, staff in two pubs tested positive as the authorities went on random checks. Eight employees tested positive at TOIT Brewpub, Indiranagar, and 16 at 1522-The Pub on New BEL Road.
“They will be self-isolating as they are all mostly asymptomatic. The buildings have been sanitised,” Prasad told Metrolife.
Over the past week, the BBMP has been doing random checks on employees working at hotels, pubs, and restaurants. Testing will continue, he says, with the objective being to curb any spread. 1522 – The Pub is back on its feet already.
“We shut down the entire building on Monday and sanitised every floor. We have deployed a new team,” says Priya Karmakar, head hostess of the branch. TOIT did not respond to phone calls.
Pubs and microbreweries are stepping up their efforts to keep the pandemic at bay. “Our staff was tested just a few days ago by the BBMP and we have all tested negative. Our workers are trained to follow the Covid protocol thoroughly,” says Shashi Bhushan Prasad, manager at Arbor Brewing Company.
Rony Lopes, manager of Chapter One Bar Maiin, New BEL Road, says all three floors of the building are sanitised once a day, and that includes washing of chairs and tables with warm water.
