Every household in Karnataka recognises the names of the State’s greatest poets —
Kuvempu, Bendre, Narasimhaswamy, Adiga, B M Shri, G P Rajaratnam and many
others.
Sugama Sangeetha has also played an important role in popularising them.
This unique form of music was initiated by P Kalinga Rao and many others followed suit.
Swara Smarane is a concert where singer M D Pallavi will pay a musical tribute to some of the great music composers of Sugama Sangeetha — P Kalinga Rao, Mysore Ananthaswamy, C Ashwath, H K Narayan, Padmacharan, G V Athri, Vasanth Kanakapur and Raju Ananthaswamy.
Many popular musicians will be a part of this concert.
The orchestration for the event will be unique. Each song will be presented in a different manner keeping the composer, the style of music and the poet in mind.
A group of eight violinists and 12 percussionists along with one person each on electric piano, flute and accordion; are all ready to create magic with Pallavi singing a handpicked selection of poems.
Besides, two CDs of Pallavi — the first one being composed by C Ashwath and the second one composed by Praveen Rao, will be released by Dr S P Balasubramanyam.
Swara Smarane will be held on January 28 at 7 pm in Chowdiah Memorial Hall by Samudra Trust, an organisation founded by Pallavi and Arun, in association with The Academy of Music.
