The residents of Pulakeshinagar took out a protest march demanding that the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board ensure adequate supply of water to the area, on Monday.
The protesters demanded that a ground-level reservoir (GLR) and a pumphouse be constructed to meet the demand for water in Muneshwara ward, Devarajeevanahalli, SK Garden, Kushalnagar, Sagaipuram and Kavalbyrasandra.
“The local legislator is from Congress and he is not taking steps to provide us land to construct GLR and pumphouse. We have asked for the old maternity hospital land or the playground or the park on Bore Bank Road. But there has been no co-operation from the MLA,” Akhanda Srinivas Murthy, a resident said.
He said that people in the locality buy water for both potable and non-potable purposes, and drinking water is sold at Rs five per pot.
B Prasanna Kumar, MLA, Pulikeshinagar, told Deccan Herald that the old maternity hospital land is under litigation and the matter is pending before a court.
The legislator said he was completely aware of the water scarcity in the area. He blamed the nexus between valvemen and local leaders, illegal water connections, etc, for the water crisis.
Venkataraju, Engineer-in-Chief, BWSSB, said that the Palike had informed the Board that land could be provided to construct GLR only after shifting of the slaughterhouse.
