The festival is observed to mark Prophet Mohammed's birth anniversary, which is believed to fall on Rabi-ul-Awwal –– the twelfth day of the third month of the Islamic calendar.
Muslims indulge in Fikr (thought) and Dhikr (remembrance) and what it means to be a follower of the prophet on this day.
Gatherings and meets are organised where his teachings are discussed, and Saturday was no different.
“Prophet Mohammed has said that as creations of God everyone are supposed to worship Allah in a manner that is satisfactory to the almighty. As Prophet Mohammed showed the humanity the path to paradise, we resolve to abide by his teachings and spread his message,” explained Mohammed Abdulla Javed, president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Karnataka and Goa zone.
While the mood was not celebratory, children were told about the prophet’s life and teachings. In many houses, the day was also observed with cooking a feast and sherbets.
Meanwhile, Markazi Meelad-O-Seerat Committee from Sunni Jamiat, All Karnataka, organised Jashne Eid Meelad Un Nabi and Juloos-e-Mohammadi, where Islamic scholars spoke about Prophet Mohammad's message.
