The acquisition of the 30-acre land will fall perfectly into the Railways’ plans of expansion, that it sorely needs.

Unlike the Yeswantpur railway station, where the railways has its own land to expand, there is no additional land outside the City railway station.

Division Railway Manager S Mani who took over recently, said there was a ten per cent incremental increase in the number of passengers and trains every year.

“We do have long term plans and we need land for this. The Binny Mills land is available and we have proposed to the State government for its acquisition. Nothing is certain yet,” he said.

In the meantime, Okalipuram side entrance of the railway station will have a new road. This road will open next to the administrative offices of the Railways and pass through adjoining Platforms 7 and 8 till exit lane of the main entrance.

The 150-metre stretch will be used strictly for passenger entry and can be used by all vehicles including buses and private vehicles.

The two-lane road is expected to be completed in a year’s time and will connect to the BBMP flyover, assuming civic agency completes the proposed flyover in front of the main entrance of the city station.
