Citizens and activists protesting against the relocation of the proposed Cantonment Metro station have called a round table meeting on October 7 to discuss the issue of integration and, communicate their views to the officials.

Members of the public and NGOs such as Praja RAAG, Citizens for Bengaluru and others have come together to host the event which will focus on integration of different modes of transport.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has said a subway of 150 metres will connect the Metro station from its new location at Madina Ground in Bamboo Bazaar and the Cantonment Railway Station.

However, citizens are not ready to accept it. “It is not enough if you connect one end of the platform. One needs to look at the distance covered by a passenger from the moment he exits the Metro station till he boards the train, which was just 80 metres as per the original alignment,” said Rajkumar Dugar, a resident of Vasanthnagar.

BMRC’s new alignment, Dugar said, will make passengers walk at least 400 metres for suburban rail (at Platform number 1A) and 800 metres for other trains.

He said leaders and officials from the government, experts like IISc professor Ashish Verma, urban transport expert Ashwin Mahesh and others will be invited to the programme.
