A Rajagopal, a senior citizen from Muniswamappa Lane, Thigalarpet, had approached Samuel Rajasekhar, a board member of the school and his sister's neighbour in the Mission Complex, to secure admission for his grandson K Dheerajkumar in the Lower Kindergarten class.
Promising admission, Rajasekhar allegedly demanded a donation of Rs one lakh from Rajagopal. Further, he also reportedly demanded recommendation letters from the offices of the Chief Minister, the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and the Law Minister, Rajagopal said.
Rajagopal produced all the recommendation letters along with the cash payment of the said amount on March 3.
Rajasekhar, however, allegedly bought time when Rajagopal wanted a guarantee for admission.
Finally, a month and a half later, Rajasekhar informed the complainant of a "scheduled" board meeting of the school on April 23 and promised to obtain approval for his grandson’s admission there. Next day, however, Rajasekhar went inaccessible saying he couldn't meet Rajagopal in person. He was also allegedly unavailable over phone.
When Rajagopal went to the school office the next day, it was deserted. The security guards told him that the school is closed till May 17. To Rajagopal's shock, he was also told that no board meeting was held on the previous day. Taken aback by this, Rajagopal approached the police and lodged a complaint.
Not aware: Rajasekhar
When Deccan Herald contacted Rajasekhar, he said he was not aware of any such incident. When asked if he was denying the allegation, Rajasekhar said there was no question of denial as he was unaware of any such incident.
Registering a case under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC, the Cubbon Park police have begun the investigation.
